Students looking to go directly into a trade or technical vocation, those with blemished high school transcripts looking to work their way into a four-year school.
What You’ll Take Depending on your degree program, students typically either focus on taking general pre-requisite courses that can transfer to a four-year institution or courses in their specific trade. Other Learning Opportunities In addition to in-class learning, our students take on apprenticeships and internships within their local community. Beyond getting an insider’s look at their future job, interns and apprentices also gain valuable industry connections they can use to land a job upon graduation. Everyone taking out a loan after Wednesday are getting a break: Interest rates on federal student loans taken out after Wednesday will be lower than loans taken out the previous year.
That's because in 2013, Congress changed how student loan interest rates are set, moving from setting a number each year to basing it on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rate in the spring of each year, plus a set increment for each fee. The rate is then locked in for the life of the loan. The rates are: ■4.29% for Stafford loans for undergraduates, both subsidized and unsubsidized. That's down from 4.66% for loans issued in 2014-15. ■5.84% for Stafford loans for graduate students, down from 6.21% for loans issued in 2014-15. ■6.84% for Parent and Graduate PLUS loans, down from 7.21% for loans issued in 2014-15. "Lower interest rates are great news for students who need loans this coming school year," Lauren Asher, president of the Institute for College Access and Success, a nonprofit that advocates for better student loan policy, said in a news release about the drop. "However, the Congressional Budget Office projects much higher rates next year. "Federal student loans will still be the safest way to borrow, with fixed rates (and) income-based repayment plans. ... But Congress should act to make student loans simpler and more affordable." I encountered several students who decided that searching for scholarships was a complete waste of their time or I don't know where to being looking. I was amazed! I asked students why they had such a lack of enthusiasm for free money, do you, not know how to Google.
When a number of different goals are at work simultaneously, an individual’s motivation to pursue some goals may affect both their motivation and ability to pursue others. This is certainly true for college students who often (and not always successfully) struggle to balance different goals, which may be academic, social (e.g., making friends, finding a romantic partner, having fun), and physical (e.g., getting adequate sleep, exercising). Whatever it maybe, most college students are leaving money on the table. ASA College President Alex Shchegol was delighted to attend the Russia Day celebration on Tuesday, June 9th with the Consulate General of the Russian Federation. The annual holiday is officially celebrated on June 12th and marks the consolidation of modern Russian statehood. Mr. Shchegol was happy to meet staff members and the official Russian Consul, the Honorable Igor L. Goluboskiy at their beautiful New York City headquarters.
“In this age of technology, the world has grown much smaller.” Said Mr. Shchegol, “It is in everyone’s best interest to have a globally aware, educated workforce. Our future depends on international communications at every level.” With three campuses ASA College prepares its students for successful careers in the health care, criminal justice, information technology, and business sectors. Thanks to the school’s accelerated programs, students can finish their degrees in just 16 months. We met with ASA College officials to discuss study tips for the school’s fast-paced courses.
Q: What study skills should students develop when they begin taking classes at ASA College? A: In addition to time management, task prioritization, and overall organization, speed reading ranks as a very valuable skill. Q: Can you tell me about some of the techniques for speed reading? A: One of the keys to speed reading is learning to skim efficiently. As students develop their speed reading skills, they start to see that some portions of the text hold more substance. Through practice, students can learn how to focus on the important information. Training yourself to read in blocks rather than word by word also improves reading times. Eventually, speed readers can read a whole sentence or paragraph at a time. Q: I imagine this can be a frustrating skill to learn. Do you have any advice? A: Sure, students who track their progress often find that they have improved their reading times significantly, so time yourself when you start training and then again after several weeks. It also helps to use your hand to guide your eye down the page to avoid rereading and to devote all your attention to the task at hand.
